Zac on the set of "Seventeen"

It’s no secret that Zac Efron is headed for a huge film career. His latest gig is a movie with Matthew Perry called “Seventeen.” And from the looks of it, he’s fitting in just fine.

Yesterday, the High School Musical stud was photographed on the Santa Monica set of his new movie, clowning around outside his trailer.

When he showed up on set, Zac was wearing a clean button down shirt, but in subsequent pics, it appeared that he’d gotten quite dirty. Is it part of the movie’s script, or is he having mud wrestling matches with the former Friends star?

Nevertheless, is set to be a great year for Zac. With HSM 3 in the works, and his status as one half of one of the hottest Hollywood “It” couples, it’s clear that Efron is sitting pretty.

Zanessa's New Years Day diner date

What better way to ring in the New Year than with a romantic diner date? That's what Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens opted for - as they headed out to grab a bite to eat on Tuesday in Toluca Lake.

The High School Musical hotties dined at one of their favorite spots, Paty's Diner, with both smiling and laughing as they made their way past the paparazzi on site.

Meanwhile, Zac has been receiving high praises in numerous year end newspaper reviews. A few of the compliments include:

Contra Costa Times:

Biggest Tween Sensation (Male): Zac Efron turned on the sparkly eyed, dimple-faced charm and helped the Disney Channel’s "High School Musical 2" achieve the largest audience (17.2 million) in basic-cable history.

Boston Globe:

Television’s most striking successes tended to be wholesome family fare: ”American Idol.” ”Dancing With the Stars.” ”High School Musical 2.” We swooned over fresh-faced, clean-cut boys: Zac Efron, Sanjaya Malakar.

Fort-Worth Star Telegram:

What's Hot: Zac Efron and Miley Cyrus — him with the smash hit "High School Musical 2" telemovie and soundtrack, her with a successful "Hannah Montana" TV show and sold-out concert tour — rocketed to stardom, leaving anyone over 18 suddenly feeling very, very old and as useless as a first-generation iPod.

Zac on the set of "Seventeen"

Two days ago, we saw Tobey Maguire with a weird side-shaved haircut. And now we bring you Zac Efron, doing his best Chazz Michael Michaels (Blades of Glory) impression.

The High School Musical heartthrob is currently filming “Seventeen” along with Matthew Perry, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Melora Hardin.

Efron showed up on the Santa Monica set yesterday wearing a comfy combo of a grey t-shirt and some 3 stripes Adidas warm-up pants.

And apparently, Zac is a joy to work with. Co-star Trachtenberg recently told press, “It’s nice coming to work with Zac Efron. He’s like the loveliest thing and doing a great job on the movie.”

Zac on the set of "Seventeen"

Who purchased the vehicle for Vanessa is still up in the air, but some insiders are already speculating that it may have been from her HSM co-star boyfriend Zac Efron.

If so, it would be a great way to make up for the fact that he was stuck working on the set of "Seventeen" on his girlfriends 19th!

Zac arriving to the "Seventeen" set earlier

He’s the hottest boy in Hollywood, and Zac Efron knows how to turn heads. He showed up at the Santa Monica set of Seventeen earlier today in a brand-spanking-new Audi sportscar, looking slick in his black leather jacket.

Once there, Zac met up with former Friends actor Matthew Perry, as the two shook hands and got ready to work together for the first time

Also starring in the movie is Michelle Trachtenberg, who recently discussed working with Zac. She confessed that “it’s nice coming to work with Zac Efron,” adding, “he’s like the loveliest thing and doing a great job on the movie.”

Changing subjects, Michelle talked about Zac's High School Musical co-star girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens, saying, “I have not met Vanessa (face to face) yet."

However, Michelle did reveal that she has chatted with her on the phone, "discussing their mutual love for the Spice Girls."

HSM2 DVD Release Party

Well, it’s official. Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are the cutest couple to come out of Disney-land since Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears left the Mickey Mouse Club.

The “Seventeen” stud and his singer/actress girlfriend were on the red carpet yesterday in Los Angeles for the DVD release of High School Musical 2.

They wore matching leather jackets, another reminder of the Justin/Britney romance (remember when they got all decked out in the denim outfits for an awards show?), and smiled pretty for the camera. And from the sound of it, there will be yet another HSM installment for these two to get rich off of.

Vanessa recently told press that she’s really excited about the prospect of High School Musical 3. "To do a third one for the big screen, I can't begin to think how much fun we'll have."

And it sounds like the whole crew is up for it. "Only a few people have actually signed the contracts ... [But] we're all definitely on board."

Zac out playing basketball

He’s been polishing his game on the court lately, and we must say that Zac Efron looks good in a pair of basketball shorts and aviator sunglasses!

The High School Musical hottie was doing a little research for his upcoming role in “Seventeen” by shooting around with his buddies in Los Angeles, when he was approached with a special gift.

Two female paparazzi presented Zac with white roses from his “fans in America and fans in Europe.” Random?

The day before, he was all about helping out the children of John Adams Middle School in LA. Zac personally dropped off several boxes of donated school supplies, along with a brand new video camera.

He also spoke with students on behalf of DonorsChoose.org, an organization set up to help outfit schools with needed innovations.

Enjoy the pictures of Zac out playing basketball yesterday and at the school the day before.
